What is vortex spring cave gate?

Vortex Spring Cave is a privately owned cave system located in Ponce de Leon, Florida. The cave system is considered one of the premier freshwater diving sites in the world with crystal clear waters and a constant water temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.

The cave gate is the entrance to the cave system and is located at the bottom of the Vortex Spring basin. The gate marks the entrance to the main cave passage leading into the cave system and is about 20 feet below the surface of the water.

The gate is made up of a metal frame with a bar grate that can be locked to control access to the cave system. Dive teams are required to register with the cave management before entering the cave system and must adhere to strict safety protocols while diving in the cave.

The Vortex Spring Cave system has over 1,600 feet of explored passages and is home to a variety of unique geological formations, including underwater stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is also home to a variety of aquatic life, such as fish, turtles, and other creatures that have adapted to living in the dark underwater environment of the cave system.
